Street art


Some call it graffiti – the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property (read: vandalism). In most countries and cities it is illegal but sometimes it is also the most important form of art in a city. I have blogged about local Cape Town graffiti before, but this time I want to show some of my favourite pieces as found on the www.


I find this to be more than vandalism, artist like the ever illusive Banksy and our own local Faith47 and American based Candy Chang – to name only three of the big names – are making inspirational street art that delivers social commentary and new insight into situations and circumstances in the cities we live in.

Art? Vandalism? Social commentary? You decide… that is what it is all about in the end, art in public spaces, where the public can decide…
